Want to get away from it all but don’t want to go far…. Imagine feeling 1000 miles from anywhere but being only 5 minutes from civilization. That’s what its like on our families wild “campground” retreat at Tweed.
This totally private 13 Acre bush covered block has a huge 120m x 60m flat open area (for camping or whatever) perched on its own secluded headland that pokes out into the Trerranora Broadwater. Encircled by the trees so no one can know you are there the camp area has 180 degree water views (thru the trees) to the water. Fisherman’s delight with direct access to the broadwater is via easy the formed road (2 minute walk thru the bush) from up at the camp down to the waters edge leading to the walkway that circles much of the north shore of the waterway. Go left to the Seagulls club (think restaurant and pokies like a surf club, bowls club, footy club) or right for another pleasant waters edge walk around to the broadwater boat ramp . Can even drive your ute or 4WD from the camp down the formed road to a place you can launch your tinny. (probably could take a car down if careful).
The broad water is connected to the Tweed River and its tributaries so there is a HUGE water area to explore in your tinny, kayak, paddle board or what have you. With pristine waters, white sandy beaches, charming river towns and a variety of fish and crabs to be caught, the Tweed River environs is hidden gem and one of the best sheltered inland salt water waterways in Australia.
However despite feeling your miles from anywhere its literally less than 10 minutes from the the fabulous Southern Gold Coast beaches . With not a soul about on the bush retreat its total tranquility…. but if you have a craving for some civilization, just a few minutes in the car takes you to the Tweed/Coolangatta township straddling the QLD/NSW border. With a population of over half a million there are malls, supermarkets, all manner of shops, restaurants, movie theaters, bowling ally etc etc. (and the Gold Coast International Airport for anyone that wants to have friends fly in….)
Back to “The Block” . This is not your modern all bells and whistles campground. Its our family place we go to escape from the rat race ! Basic old fashioned (think 30-40 years ago) camping. However it does have city water and an amenities “shed” with flush toilet and solar heated hot water shower. Also a large open covered pavilion with “kitchen area” (think basic – not posh) with sink bench, worktop, big stainless steel BBQ. Open fire pit and plate for cooking snags or whatever in the evening. (Note sometimes the local shire has fire bans in place during summer).
Can be totally alone OR camping with friends.
NOTE: There is a formed crushed rock driveway into the property and you can get a caravan, camper trailer or boat in or out with a 4WD. A car can also easily get in or out from the camp area BUT a car is NOT suitable to towing anything in/out due to one steep hairpin bend on the access drive.
This is the first time EVER in over 30 years this unique family camp has been offered to the public. We absolutely love our campground and are sure you will love it to !!
